For Work We Must

For Work We Must
The dawn fades quickly
When I drive with the others
Jobs we need and hate

Queer passage of time
Hasty shower and breakfast
Interminable day

Lunch is a landmark
A bald, towering rock face
A sight for sore hands

Minutes drag slower;
An inverse proportion to
How quickly sweat drips
